Adaptive noise reduction in touchscreen devices

A method of operating a touchscreen device, the method comprising:

• performing a noise monitoring scan on the touchscreen device;
• collecting noise data from the noise monitoring scan;
• determining whether the noise data is greater than a first noise threshold and less than a second noise threshold and, if not, whether the noise data is greater than the second noise threshold, the second noise threshold being larger than the first noise threshold;
• entering a first noise mode to apply a first noise filter in response to the noise data being greater than the first noise threshold and less than the second noise threshold, wherein applying the first noise filter comprises adding a touch delay so that reported touch inputs are delayed by a number of frames, increasing a touch reporting threshold, and reporting a touch input based on the added touch delay and the increased touch reporting threshold;
• and
• entering a second noise mode to apply a second noise filter in response to the noise data being greater than the second noise threshold.

A method of operating a touchscreen device, the method comprising:

• performing a first noise monitoring scan on the touchscreen device;
• collecting first noise data from the first noise monitoring scan;
• determining that the first noise data is greater than a first noise threshold and less than a second noise threshold, the second noise threshold being larger than the first noise threshold;
• entering a first noise mode in response to the first noise data being greater than the first noise threshold and less than the second noise threshold, wherein the first noise mode comprises adding a touch delay, increasing a touch reporting threshold, and reporting a touch input based on the added touch delay and the increased touch reporting threshold;
• performing a second noise monitoring scan on the touchscreen device;
• collecting second noise data from the second noise monitoring scan;
• determining that the second noise data is greater than the second noise threshold;
• and
• entering a second noise mode in response to the second noise data exceeding the second noise threshold, wherein the second noise mode comprises performing two or more mutual scans on a same portion of a frame.
