Abstract
Aspects of the present invention relate to methods and systems for providing a high transmission see-through view of the environment while trapping escaping light from the display system. In embodiments, a camera system is also provided that is aligned with the display system to provide images of the environment in a viewing direction of the user.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- receiving, via a first combiner of a wearable head device, image light projected by a light source, the first combiner comprising a first surface with an adjustable reflectivity;
- reflecting, via the first combiner, the image light toward a first eye of a user of the wearable head device;
- visually presenting image content to a user of a wearable head device via the first combiner;
- concurrently with presenting the image content, determining whether a brightness of a first ambient light exceeds a first threshold value, wherein the first ambient light is reflected by the first combiner and captured by a first camera;
- in accordance with a determination that the brightness of the first ambient light exceeds the first threshold value, increasing the reflectivity of the first surface of the first combiner;
- and
- in accordance with a determination that the brightness of the first ambient light does not exceed the first threshold value, forgoing increasing the reflectivity of the first surface of the first combiner.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform a method comprising:
- visually presenting image content to a user of a wearable head device via a first combiner, wherein the first combiner comprises a first surface with an adjustable reflectivity and is configured to receive image light projected by a light source and reflect the image light toward a first eye of a user of the wearable head device;
- concurrently with presenting the image content, determining whether a brightness of a first ambient light exceeds a first threshold value, wherein the first ambient light is reflected by the first combiner and captured by a first camera;
- in accordance with a determination that the brightness of the first ambient light exceeds the first threshold value, increasing the reflectivity of the first surface of the first combiner;
- and in accordance with a determination that the brightness of the first ambient light does not exceed the first threshold value, forgoing increasing the reflectivity of the first surface of the first combiner.
