Abstract
A novel metasurface and method of manufacture are disclosed. The metasurface of the present disclosure is a volumetric and nonlocal metasurface that maps incident electromagnetic waves to a spot on the bottom of the metasurface. The metasurface defines a complex of structural optical properties to manipulate the electromagnetic wave nonlocally. The metasurface is composed of 2 more materials each having a different refractive index.
Claims33
A device for processing electromagnetic waves, the device comprising:
- a first metasurface having a first surface and a second surface, the first surface of the first metasurface receiving the electromagnetic waves, the first metasurface defining a complex of structural optical properties;
- and
- wherein the first metasurface nonlocally maps the electromagnetic waves at the first surface to a spot directly on the second surface by transporting and processing electromagnetic waves internally with purpose-designed nonlocal properties of the first metasurface;
- and
- wherein the first metasurface comprises a first material and a second material, the first material having a refractive index different than the second material.
2 more elements
A method for manufacturing a metasurface, the method comprising:
- selecting a substrate;
- creating a defined pattern of a first material on or in the substrate;
- encasing the defined pattern of the first material with a second material;
- and
- wherein the defined pattern of the first material has a refractive index different than the second material, and the encasing forms a volumetric metasurface that nonlocally maps electromagnetic waves at a first surface of the volumetric metasurface to a spot directly on a second surface of the volumetric metasurface by transporting and processing electromagnetic waves internally with purpose-designed nonlocal properties of the metasurface.
