Abstract
A method can include receiving a sonic data log for a length interval of a borehole in a geologic environment as acquired via a tool disposed in the borehole; representing the sonic data log using an ordered series representation with respect to length for at least a portion of the length interval; and inverting the sonic data log using the ordered series representation to generate a model of at least a portion of the geologic environment, where the model includes sonic velocity related property values.
Claims17
A method comprising:
- performing drilling operations using a bottomhole assembly in a borehole in a geologic environment;
- emitting a sonic wave from a sonic tool in the bottomhole assembly;
- receiving sonic data, based on the sonic wave, as a sonic data log for a length interval of the borehole;
- generating an ordered series representation of the sonic data log, wherein the ordered series representation is of a slowness domain with respect to a depth domain for at least a portion of the length interval;
- and
- generating a 1-dimensional (1D) velocity model from the ordered series representation, wherein generating the 1D velocity model includes inverting the sonic data log using the ordered series representation to generate a model of at least a portion of the geologic environment, wherein the model includes sonic velocity related property values, wherein inverting the sonic data log includes progressing successively from a lower order to a higher order of the ordered series representation to reduce error represented by an objection function.
A system comprising:
- a processor;
- memory accessible to the processor;
- and
- processor-executable instructions stored in the memory and executable by the processor to instruct the system to:
- while performing drilling operations using a bottomhole assembly in a borehole in a geologic environment, emit a sonic wave from a sonic tool in the bottomhole assembly;
- receive sonic data, based on the sonic wave, as a sonic data log for a length interval of the borehole;
- generate an ordered series representation of the sonic data log, wherein the ordered series representation is of a slowness domain with respect to a depth domain for at least a portion of the length interval;
- and
- generate a 1-dimensional (1D) velocity model from the ordered series representation, wherein generating the 1D velocity model includes inverting the sonic data log using the ordered series representation to generate a model of at least a portion of the geologic environment, wherein the model includes sonic velocity related property values, wherein inverting the sonic data log includes progressing successively from a lower order to a higher order of the ordered series representation to reduce error represented by an objection function.
One or more computer-readable storage media comprising computer-executable instructions executable to instruct a computing system to:
- while performing drilling operations using a bottomhole assembly in a borehole in a geologic environment, emit a sonic wave from a sonic tool in the bottomhole assembly;
- receive sonic data, based on the sonic wave, as a sonic data log for a length interval of the borehole;
- generate an ordered series representation of the sonic data log, wherein the ordered series representation is of a slowness domain with respect to a depth domain for at least a portion of the length interval;
- and
- generate a 1-dimensional (1D) velocity model from the ordered series representation, wherein generating the 1D velocity model includes inverting the sonic data log using the ordered series representation to generate a model of at least a portion of the geologic environment, wherein the model includes sonic velocity related property values, wherein inverting the sonic data log includes progressing successively from a lower order to a higher order of the ordered series representation to reduce error represented by an objection function, wherein a progression from the lower order to the higher order defines a cycle, and wherein the cycle utilizes a result from a prior cycle for an initial cycle condition.
