Dynamic calibration and correction of stroke volume of a pump

A fluid processing device comprising:

• a pump;
• a volume measurement system configured to be associated to a fluid container;
• and a controller configured to control the operation of the pump and to receive a plurality of signals from the volume measurement system during a fluid processing procedure, wherein each of the plurality of signals received by the controller from the volume measurement system is indicative of a volume of a fluid in the fluid container associated with the volume measurement system at a different time during the fluid processing procedure, operation of the pump during the fluid processing procedure changes the volume of the fluid in the fluid container associated with the volume measurement system, and the controller is further configured to (a) compare a pair of successive signals received from the volume measurement system during the fluid processing procedure to calculate a change in volume of the fluid in the fluid container associated with the volume measurement system during the time between receipt of said pair of successive signals, (b) repeat (a) for a plurality of pairs of successive signals so as to calculate the change in volume of the fluid in the fluid container associated with the volume measurement system for each of said plurality of pairs of successive signals, (c) calculate a standard deviation of said plurality of changes in volume of the fluid in the fluid container associated with the volume measurement system, determining that the volume measurement system is operating correctly when the standard deviation is below a target threshold and determining that the volume measurement system is not operating correctly when the standard deviation is above the target threshold, and (d) upon determining that the volume measurement system is operating correctly, calculate a stroke volume of the pump, compare a target change in volume of the fluid in the fluid container associated with the volume measurement system to an actual change in volume of the fluid in the fluid container associated with the volume measurement system, calculate a correction factor when there is a difference between the target change in volume of the fluid in the fluid container associated with the volume measurement system and the actual change in volume of the fluid in the fluid container associated with the volume measurement system, and adjust the operation of the pump based at least in part on the correction factor.
