An optical target imaging system includes a tower structure supporting the system at the muzzle of the barrel, a cantilever system connected to and supported from the tower structure by a system of flexible tensioners extending in a distal direction from above an elevation of the muzzle to a distal end. A distal screen assembly is beneath the cantilever system at the distal end and holds a distal screen to intersect a path extending the barrel central axis. A proximal screen assembly holds a proximal screen to intersect the path extending the barrel central axis between the muzzle and the distal screen. In some embodiments, the distal screen is held with a lower extent nearer to the muzzle. The distal screen may be mounted to be rotatable around a median axle in the plane of the distal screen, with an actuator to articulate the distal screen around the median axle.
