Abstract
A gate valve can include a valve body, a bore positioned within the valve body, where the bore traverses a width of the valve body and comprises an inlet and an outlet, and a gate slidably disposed within the bore. The gate valve can further include a seat disposed around the bore and adjacent to the gate and the valve body, where an inner surface of the second piece is adjacent to the gate, where an outer surface of the first piece is adjacent to the valve body, where the first piece and the second piece are adjacent to each other, where a spring system includes a cavity disposed between the first piece and the second piece and a spring section, where the spring section protrudes outward relative to the second piece and moves inward to reduce a volume of the cavity when the gate contacts the spring section.
Claims17
A gate valve comprising:
- a valve body;
- a bore positioned within the valve body, wherein the bore traverses a width of the valve body and comprises an inlet and an outlet;
- a gate slidably disposed within the bore between the inlet and the outlet, wherein the gate, when in a first position within the bore, is configured to allow a fluid to flow within the bore from the inlet to the outlet, and wherein the gate, when in a second position within the bore, is configured to prevent a fluid from flowing therethrough from the inlet to the outlet;
- and
- a seat disposed around the bore and adjacent to the gate and the valve body, wherein the seat comprises a first piece and a second piece, wherein the first piece comprises a first seat body having a first inner surface, a second inner surface, a third inner surface, and an outer surface, wherein the second piece comprises a second seat body having a spring system, an inner surface, a first outer surface, and a second outer surface, wherein the inner surface of the second piece is adjacent to the gate, wherein the outer surface of the first piece is adjacent to the valve body, wherein the second inner surface of the first piece and the first outer surface of the second piece are adjacent to each other, wherein the spring system of the second piece comprises a cavity disposed between the second inner surface of the first piece and the first outer surface of the second piece, wherein the spring system of the second piece further comprises a spring section positioned between the cavity and the inner surface of the second piece, wherein the spring section protrudes outward relative to the inner surface of the second piece, wherein the spring section is configured to move inward and reduce a volume of the cavity when the gate contacts the spring section, wherein the first outer surface of the second piece is adjacent to an outer perimeter of the second piece and an intermediate perimeter of the second piece, wherein the first outer surface of the second piece and the second outer surface of the second piece are separated by the intermediate perimeter of the second piece, wherein the first inner surface of the first piece is adjacent to a first intermediate perimeter of the first piece and an outer perimeter of the first piece, wherein the third inner surface of the first piece is adjacent to a second intermediate perimeter of the first piece and an inner perimeter of the first piece, wherein the first inner surface of the first piece and the second inner surface of the first piece are separated by the first intermediate perimeter of the first piece, and wherein the second inner surface of the first piece and the third inner surface of the first piece are separated by the second intermediate perimeter of the first piece.
A seat for a gate valve, the seat comprising:
- a first piece comprising a first seat body having a first inner surface, a second inner surface, a third inner surface, and an outer surface, wherein the outer surface of the first piece is configured to be adjacent to a valve body;
- and
- a second piece comprising a second seat body having a spring system, an inner surface, a first outer surface, and a second outer surface, wherein the inner surface of the second piece is configured to be adjacent to a gate, wherein the second inner surface of the first piece and the first outer surface of the second piece are configured to be adjacent to each other, wherein the
- spring system comprises:
- a cavity disposed between the second inner surface of the first piece and the first outer surface of the second piece, wherein the spring system further comprises
- a spring section positioned between the cavity and the inner surface of the second piece, wherein the spring section comprises a protrusion that is tapered toward a bottom end of the second seat body, wherein the protrusion protrudes outward relative to the inner surface of the second piece, wherein the spring section is configured to move inward and reduce a volume of the cavity when the gate contacts the protrusion of the spring section, wherein the spring section is configured to revert to its default position, thereby allowing the volume of the cavity to be restored, when the gate no longer contacts the protrusion, wherein the first outer surface of the second piece is adjacent to an outer perimeter of the second piece and an intermediate perimeter of the second piece, wherein the first outer surface of the second piece and the second outer surface of the second piece are separated by the intermediate perimeter of the second piece, wherein the first inner surface of the first piece is adjacent to a first intermediate perimeter of the first piece and an outer perimeter of the first piece, wherein the third inner surface of the first piece is adjacent to a second intermediate perimeter of the first piece and perimeter of the first piece, wherein the first inner surface of the first piece and the second inner surface of the first piece are separated by the first intermediate perimeter of the first piece, and wherein the second inner surface of the first piece and the third inner surface of the first piece are separated by the second intermediate perimeter of the first piece.
