Stator assemblies for gas turbine engines include a stator and a set of stator vanes. A bleed aperture is defined between first and second stator vanes having respective vane camber lines. A channel is defined between the stator vanes and a mid-channel line is defined equidistant between the first and second vane camber lines and follows a parallel contour of the vane camber lines. The channel defines a covered portion between the stator vanes and has a forward end and an aft end defined relative to the vane leading and trailing edges. The bleed aperture defines an aperture center line and includes a leading edge section, a trailing edge section, and a primary aperture section defined therebetween, with a forward end no farther forward than a forward end of the covered portion and an aft end no farther forward than an aft end of the covered portion.
