Abstract

Device for restoring the mechanical integrity of casing or production tubing in hydrocarbon wells with diameters of less than 4.5 inches. The device includes: a First Section (I) having a lower mechanical anchor; a Second Section (II) having a lower packer; a Third Section (III) having an upper connector; a Fourth Section (IV) having a plurality of longitudinally hollow cylindrical mechanical elements; a Fifth Section (V) having a finishing tool connector; a Sixth Section (VI) having an upper mechanical anchor; and a Seventh Section (VII) having an upper packer. A system including the device is disclosed for use in providing a permanent and resilient seal over splits, perforations and/or holes in the tubing. Procedures for evaluating the effectiveness of the device in a hydrocarbon well, recovering the device from a hydrocarbon well, and installing the device in a hydrocarbon well are disclosed.

Dependent claims

A device for use in a system for restoring integrity of small diameter casing or production pipe in hydrocarbon reservoir wells, wherein the device comprises seven sections, assembled sequentially and adjacent to each other, wherein the seven sections comprise, in sequence, the following:

a First Section (I) comprising a lower mechanical anchor;
a Second Section (II) comprising a lower packer;
a Third Section (III) comprising an upper connector;
a Fourth Section (IV) comprising a plurality of longitudinally hollow cylindrical mechanical elements comprising sleeves;
a Fifth Section (V) comprising a fishing tool connector;
a Sixth Section (VI) comprising an upper mechanical anchor;
and a Seventh Section (VII) comprising an upper packer, wherein said device is suitable for being placed inside a producing well to isolate zones of casing or production pipe that have anomalies selected from the group consisting of holes, perforations, and splits, and wherein said device simultaneously allows passage of hydrocarbon production fluids with other fluids, if any, along a longitudinal axis of the device.
