Abstract
An electrocatalyst for producing hydrogen peroxide solution on-demand via a 2-electron electrochemical oxygen reduction reaction in an acid electrolyte is synthesized from oxygen-functionalized nanostructured carbon and noble metal particles.
Claims19
An oxidation reduction catalyst for producing hydrogen peroxide comprising:
- a carbon substrate having oxidation defects induced therein;
- and
- noble metal clusters trapped within the oxidation defects via solution impregnation, wherein the noble metal clusters are partially oxidized;
- wherein a composition of the noble metal clusters and the carbon substrate induce a selective 2-electron oxygen reduction reaction in an acidic electrolyte.
The catalyst of 1, wherein the noble metal clusters are one or a combination of Pd3 and Pd4.
The catalyst of 1, wherein the noble metal clusters are at least partially amorphous.
A composition for inducing a two-electron oxidation reduction reaction (2e− ORR) to produce hydrogen peroxide, the composition comprising:
- a nanostructured carbon substrate having oxidation defects induced therein;
- and
- noble metal clusters trapped within the oxidation defects via solution impregnation in an acid solution, wherein the noble metal clusters are partially oxidized;
- wherein the composition induces a selective 2-electron oxygen reduction reaction in an acidic electrolyte to produce hydrogen peroxide.
A two-electron (2e−) oxidation reduction reaction (ORR) electrocatalyst for inducing production of hydrogen peroxide in an acidic electrolyte, the electrocatalyst comprising:
- partially oxidized palladium (Pd) clusters;
- and
- an oxygen-functionalized carbon nanotube (CNT) substrate, wherein a synergistic interaction is formed between the clusters and the CNT substrate using acid solution impregnation.
