Abstract
This disclosure methods of treating unconsolidated sand formations using a sealant composition, including red mud, an epoxy resin, and a crosslinker.
Claims16
A method of treating an unconsolidated sand formation, comprising:
- applying a sealant composition to the unconsolidated sand formation, the sealant
- composition comprising:
- about 5 wt % to about 15 wt % red mud;
- about 85 wt % to about 90 wt % epoxy resin comprising bisphenol-A-epichlorohydrin and an oxirane mono [(C12-14)-alkyloxy)methyl] derivative;
- and
- about 2 wt % to about 4 wt % crosslinker comprising diethylenetriamine (DETA);
- wherein the sealant composition does not comprise cement.

A method of treating an unconsolidated sand formation, comprising:
- applying a sealant composition to the unconsolidated sand formation, the sealant composition comprising:
- about 1 wt % to about 15 wt % of red mud, wherein the red mud comprises particles having a diameter from about 10 μm to about 100 μm;
- about 80 wt % to 90 wt % of epoxy resin consisting essentially of bisphenol-A-epichlorohydrin and derivatives of oxirane mono [(C12-14)-alkyloxy)methyl];
- and
- about 2 wt % to about 4 wt % of crosslinker consisting essentially of diethylenetriamine (DETA).
