The system and method include a unit that that includes an oxygen generator that can to a return activated sludge (RAS) line of a wastewater treatment plant, allowing to add a very high level oxygen to the sludge. The oxygen is dissolved using a line atomizer or a pump to reach a DO higher than 10 mg/l, causing the aquatic microorganisms to reach a very high level. Once the sludge with the activated aquatic microorganisms is combined with leachate to form a mixed liquor, the aquatic microorganisms degrade the leachate (and in particular the terrestrial microorganisms in the leachate), and reclaim the phosphates from them in the form of cellular ATP (cATP). Once the digestion of the terrestrial microorganisms is complete, additional oxygen can be added to the mixed liquor to promote settling of the aquatic microorganisms and speed up the processing of the sludge.
