Abstract
A power system for a marine vessel. A battery is configured to store energy for the marine vessel. A charger is operable to charge the battery. A battery switch is operatively coupled to the battery, the battery switch being switchable between an on-state in which the battery is configured to provide the energy to the marine vessel and an off-state in which the battery is prevented from providing the energy to the marine vessel. The power system further includes an external power connection through which power is receivable for operating the charger to charge the battery. The external power connection is positioned adjacent to the battery switch such that each is accessible at the same time.
Claims20
A power system for a marine vessel, the power system comprising:
- a battery configured to store energy for the marine vessel;
- a charger operable to charge the battery;
- a battery switch operatively coupled to the battery, wherein the battery switch is switchable between an on-state in which the battery is configured to provide the energy to the marine vessel and an off-state in which the battery is prevented from providing the energy to the marine vessel;
- and
- an external power connection through which power is receivable for operating the charger to charge the battery, wherein the external power connection is physically positioned adjacent to the battery switch such that each is accessible by a single user at the same time.
A power system for a marine vessel, the power system comprising:
- a battery configured to store energy for the marine vessel;
- a charger operable to charge the battery;
- a battery switch operatively coupled to the battery, wherein the battery switch is switchable between an on-state in which the battery is configured to provide the energy to the marine vessel and an off-state in which the battery is prevented from providing the energy to the marine vessel;
- and
- an external power connection through which power is receivable for operating the charger to charge the battery, wherein the external power connection is positioned adjacent to the battery switch such that each is accessible at the same time, wherein when the cover is in the first position the battery switch is switchable to the off-state to prevent the battery from providing the energy to the marine vessel, and wherein when the cover is in the second position the battery switch is prevented from being switched to the off-state.
A method for configuring a marine vessel for controlling power therein, the marine vessel comprising a battery configured to store energy for the marine vessel, and the marine vessel further comprising a charger configured to receive power from an external power source for charging the battery, the method comprising:
- electrically coupling a battery switch to the battery, wherein the battery switch is switchable between an on-state in which the battery is configured to provide the energy to the marine vessel and an off-state in which the battery is prevented from providing the energy to the marine vessel;
- electrically coupling an external power connection through which power is receivable from an external power source for operating the charger to charge the battery;
- and
- coupling the battery switch and the external power connection to the marine vessel such that the battery switch being in the off-state causes the external power connection to be physically prevented from connecting.
A power system for a marine vessel, the power system comprising:
- a battery configured to store energy for the marine vessel;
- a charger operable to charge the battery;
- a battery switch operatively coupled to the battery, wherein the battery switch is switchable between an on-state in which the battery is configured to provide the energy to the marine vessel and an off-state in which the battery is prevented from providing the energy to the marine vessel;
- an external power connection through which power is receivable for operating the charger to charge the battery;
- and
- a cover moveable between a first position that prevents connecting to the external power connection and a second position in which the external power connection is accessible for connecting thereto, wherein the battery switch is switchable to the off-state only when the cover is in the first position.
