Park assist system

A park assist electronic control unit (ECU) for a vehicle, the ECU comprising:

• a memory configured to store a travel path of the vehicle;
• and
• a processor configured to execute the following processes in the order of (i) to (iv):
• (i) receiving a registration request from a driver of the vehicle to store the travel path associated with a parking space;
• (ii) determining, based on a state of the vehicle when the registration request is received, both of whether the travel path is an entry path or an exit path, and whether to store the travel path immediately before the registration request is received or the travel path immediately after the registration request is received, wherein the state of the vehicle includes a shift position of the vehicle and whether there is the travel path immediately before the registration request is received;
• (iii) storing the travel path determined in process (ii) into the memory as either the entry path or the exit path in accordance with the determination made in process (ii);
• and
• (iv) performing automatic park control to autonomously follow the travel path to enter into or exit from the parking space.
