Devices and techniques for ultrasound therapy via a dialysis system

A method, comprising:

• implanting a peritoneal dialysis (PD) catheter into an implanted position in the peritoneal cavity of a patient such that a distal end of the PD catheter is positioned in a base of the peritoneal cavity, wherein the PD catheter includes an ultrasound device configured to emit ultrasound waves within the peritoneal cavity, the ultrasound device being spaced apart from the distal end of the PD catheter in a position within the peritoneal cavity to provide ultrasound therapy to a liver of the patient when implanted in the peritoneal cavity;
• performing PD treatment on the patient by flowing dialysate in and out of the peritoneal cavity via the distal end of the PD catheter when the PD catheter is in the implanted position;
• and
• performing ultrasound therapy on the liver by causing the ultrasound device to emit the ultrasound waves incident on the liver when the PD catheter is in the implanted position.
