Abstract
A peripheral nerve stimulator can be used to stimulate a peripheral nerve to treat essential tremor, Parkinsonian tremor, and other forms of tremor. The stimulation pattern may alternate between the nerves. Improved stimulation algorithms can incorporate at least one of tremor feedback, external data, predictive adaptation, or long-term monitoring data. The device may be configured as a wrist worn device to stimulate three nerves to provide tremor reduction.
Claims20
A system for reducing tremor by transcutaneous stimulation of multiple peripheral nerves in a wrist of a user, the system comprising:
- a wearable device configured to be secured to a wrist of the user, said wearable device comprising a first electrode, a second electrode, a third electrode, and a fourth electrode,
- wherein the first electrode, the second electrode, and the third electrode are in electrical communication with a pulse generator,
- wherein the first electrode is positioned on the wearable device such that, when the wearable device is secured to the wrist of the user, the first electrode is positioned to stimulate a median nerve,
- wherein the second electrode is positioned on the wearable device such that, when the wearable device is secured to the wrist of the user, the second electrode is positioned between a midline of a ventral side of the wrist and a midline of a dorsal side of the wrist to stimulate a radial nerve,
- wherein the third electrode is positioned on the wearable device such that, when the wearable device is secured to the wrist of the user, the third electrode is positioned along a dorsal side of the wrist,
- wherein the fourth electrode is positioned on the wearable device such that, when the wearable device is secured to the wrist of the user, the fourth electrode is positioned to stimulate an ulnar nerve,
- wherein the first electrode and the third electrode form a first electrode pair, and
- wherein the second electrode and the third electrode form a second electrode pair.
A system for reducing tremor by transcutaneous stimulation of multiple peripheral nerves in a wrist of a user, the system comprising:
- a pulse generator;
- a wearable device configured to be secured to a wrist of the user, said wearable device comprising a first electrode, a second electrode, and a third electrode,
- wherein the pulse generator is configured to be in electrical communication with the first electrode, the second electrode, and the third electrode,
- wherein the first electrode is positioned on the wearable device such that, when the wearable device is secured to the wrist of the user, the first electrode is positioned along a ventral side of the wrist so as to target a median nerve of the user, the second electrode is positioned between a midline of the ventral side of the wrist and a midline of a dorsal side of the wrist so as to target a radial nerve of the user, and the third electrode is positioned along the dorsal side of the wrist.
