Abstract
Methods, devices and systems are provided wherein compositions are delivered to the pulmonary system of an intended user via inhalation in a controlled manner and at a desired doses and/or amounts, e.g., within a desired dosage window and/or inhalation topography. In certain embodiments, dosage windows and/or inhalation topography may be used, e.g., to provide for controlled cessation of use or to provide a desired therapeutic window.
Claims15
A method for controlling a desired dose of a composition for delivery to a pulmonary system of a user via an inhalation delivery device comprising:
- receiving, at a computing system based on user input, a request for a desired dose of at least one agent or ingredient of a composition for delivery to the pulmonary system of the user via inhalation, wherein the computing system includes a predetermined desired inhalation topography for the user defined as a stored functional relationship mapping inhalation flow rate to drug dispense rate;
- at the computing system and in response to receiving the request, determining inhalation delivery device operating parameters of the inhalation delivery device to provide the requested desired dose of the at least one agent or ingredient of the composition for delivery to the pulmonary system of a user via inhalation, wherein the inhalation delivery device operating parameters are configured to require that the drug dispense rate corresponds to the inhalation flow rate according to the stored functional relationship;
- generating, at the computing system, computer executable instructions for activation and operation of the inhalation delivery device;
- transmitting the instructions to an electronically controlled droplet ejector including at least one droplet ejection element;
- wherein the instructions include setting a maximum drug dispense rate such that the drug dispense rate increases with the inhalation flow rate up to an optimal inhalation flow rate and thereafter saturates at the maximum drug dispense rate, thereby training the user toward the optimal inhalation flow rate;
- and
- wherein the instructions further include micro-stops during a continuous dispense period to modulate dispense rate in accordance with the inhalation flow rate.
A computing system comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- a memory storing first instructions executable by the one or more processors, wherein execution causes the one or more processors to:
- receive a request for a desired dose of at least one agent or ingredient of a composition for delivery to a pulmonary system of a user via an inhalation delivery device, wherein the computing system includes a predetermined desired inhalation topography defined as a stored functional relationship mapping inhalation flow rate to drug dispense rate;
- determine inhalation delivery device operating parameters of the inhalation delivery device configured to require the drug dispense rate correspondence to the inhalation flow rate according to the stored functional relationship;
- generate computer executable second instructions for activation and operation of the inhalation delivery device;
- transmit the second instructions to an electronically controlled droplet ejector including at least one droplet ejection element;
- wherein the second instructions include saturation of the drug dispense rate at an optimal inhalation flow rate and micro-stop modulation during a continuous dispense period.
