Abstract
Described herein are systems, devices, and methods for generating and delivering an inhalable vapor or aerosol. In some embodiments, the systems, devices, and methods described herein are used to generate and deliver a vapor or aerosol containing tobacco for use in, for example, traditional smoking or, for example, to deliver a smoking cessation therapy. In some embodiments, the systems, devices, and methods described herein are used for generating and delivering a vapor or aerosol comprising a medicament. For example, in some embodiments, the systems, devices, and methods described herein are used to deliver an inhalable medicament to the lungs of a patient.
Claims20
A hand-held inhalable vapor producing device, comprising:
- a cartridge with an opening and a thermal valve associated with the opening, the thermal valve having:
- a closed arrangement that limits fluid communication through the opening;
- and
- an open arrangement that enables a substance in a liquid form to be drawn through the opening under suction;
- a plate with a plurality of pores that receive the substance in the liquid form from the opening;
- and
- a primary module that reversibly receives and couples with the cartridge and includes a light source that simultaneously directs light onto the thermal valve to open the thermal valve and onto the plate to heat the plate to vaporize the substance from the liquid form to a vapor form.
A hand-held inhalable vapor producing device, comprising:
- a mouthpiece with:
- a first end;
- a second end opposite from the first end;
- and
- an opening at or adjacent to the first end;
- a housing with:
- a first end that couples to the second end of the mouthpiece;
- a second end opposite from the first end;
- and
- a light source;
- a cartridge with:
- a first end;
- an air permeable membrane associated with the first end;
- a second end opposite from the first end;
- an opening in the second end;
- and
- a valve associated with the opening of the cartridge, able to receive light from the light source, and having:
- a closed arrangement over the opening;
- and
- an open arrangement that enables a substance in a liquid form to be drawn from the cartridge under suction, and
- a plate with pores that receive the substance in the liquid form,
- the light source positioned to simultaneously direct light onto the valve and the plate to open the valve and heat the plate when the cartridge is reversibly coupled with the housing and the light source is turned on to vaporize the substance from the liquid form to a vapor form.
A method for vaporizing a substance, comprising:
- coupling a cartridge to a primary module, the cartridge containing a substance in a liquid form;
- operating a light source of the primary module to heat a valve on the cartridge to open the valve;
- applying a suction force to the cartridge to draw the substance in the liquid form from the cartridge, through the valve and to a plate;
- and
- operating the light source of the primary module to heat the plate to vaporize the substance from the liquid form to a vapor form.
