Abstract
A polymeric substrate for treating a chondral or osteochondral defect includes a polymeric sheet having a predetermined shape and size for placement over a chondral or osteochondral defect. The polymeric sheet defines suture openings therein that allow fixation of the polymeric scaffold. Characteristically, the polymeric sheet includes biocompatible polymer. A method for treating a subject having a chondral or osteochondral defect is also provided.
Claims25
A polymeric scaffold apparatus for articular cartilage regeneration, the apparatus comprising:
- a non-absorbable parylene sheet having suture holes around a periphery of the sheet that surrounds a central portion of the sheet,
- wherein the parylene sheet has been produced by lithographically etching a parylene layer to a predetermined shape;
- and
- wherein the parylene sheet consists of parylene C, parylene D, parylene N, parylene HT, parylene A, or parylene AM, and optionally mesenchymal stem cells, autologous chondrocytes, or a biological factor.
A polymeric scaffold apparatus for tendon repair or regeneration, the apparatus comprising:
- a non-absorbable parylene sheet having:
- a thickness between 100 μm and 1000 μm;
- 0.010 μm- to 5 μm-diameter micropores therein;
- and
- suture holes around a periphery of the sheet that surrounds a central portion of the sheet,
- wherein the parylene sheet has been produced by lithographically etching a parylene layer to a predetermined shape;
- and
- wherein the parylene sheet consists of parylene C, parylene D, parylene N, parylene HT, parylene A, or parylene AM, and optionally mesenchymal stem cells, autologous chondrocytes, or a biological factor.
