Abstract
The present disclosure provides compositions, methods of preparing, and method of use of a composition comprising: (a) about 0.05 wt % to about 10.0 wt % ethylenediamaminetetraacetic acid, a salt thereof, a chelating agent, or a combination thereof; (b) from about 2.0 wt % to 50.0 wt % ethanol (ET), isopropyl alcohol (IPA), or a combination thereof; and (c) from about 0.015 μg/mL to about 100.0 μg/mL chlorhexidine, a salt thereof, or a combination thereof. These compositions, as disclosed herein, eliminate greater the 95% of planktonic or biofilm cells from a central venous access device.
Claims21
An aqueous composition comprising:
- (a) about 3.0 wt % of tetrasodium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (TE);
- (b) about 20.0 wt % of ethanol (ET);
- and,
- (c) about 2.5 g/mL of chlorhexidine (CH) or a salt thereof,
- wherein the composition eliminates more than 95% of biofilm cells after contacting the biofilm cells for at least 2 hours.
An aqueous composition consisting of:
- (a) about 3.0 wt % of tetrasodium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (TE);
- (b) about 20.0 wt % of ethanol (ET);
- (c) about 2.5 μg/mL of chlorhexidine (CH), a salt thereof, or a combination thereof;
- and
- (d) water,
- wherein the aqueous composition eliminates more than 95% of biofilm cells after contacting the biofilm cells for at least 2 hours.
