Abstract
A wound dressing material comprises a porous flexible foam core, a wound-contact scrim, and an antimicrobial layer. The wound-contact scrim comprises water-sensitive fibers comprising a copolymer comprising divalent hydroxyethylene monomer units and divalent dihydroxybutylene monomer units. The antimicrobial layer is sandwiched between the porous flexible foam core and the wound-contact scrim. The wounds dressing material may be contacted with an exposed surface of a wound. A method of making the wound dressing material is also disclosed.
Claims18
A wound dressing material comprising:
- a porous flexible foam core having a first major side opposed to a second major side;
- a first wound-contact scrim comprising first water-sensitive fibers, wherein the first water-sensitive fibers comprise a first copolymer comprising divalent hydroxyethylene monomer units and divalent dihydroxybutylene monomer units;
- and a first antimicrobial layer sandwiched between and in direct contact with both the first major side of the porous flexible foam core and the first wound-contact scrim;
- wherein the first antimicrobial layer comprises at least one antimicrobial compound and at least one polycarboxylic acid chelator compound having an aromatic region and an aliphatic region, wherein the carboxylic acids are disposed upon the aromatic region, the aliphatic region, or any combination thereof;
- and the at least one polycarboxylic acid chelator compound comprises 3-(2-carboxyphenyl) propionic acid, 3-(4-carboxyphenyl) propionic acid, 4-[(2-carboxyphenyl)amino]benzoic acid, or any combination thereof.
A method of making a wound dressing material, the method comprising laminating sequential layers:
- a) a first wound-contact scrim comprising water-sensitive fibers, wherein the water-sensitive fibers comprise a first copolymer comprising divalent hydroxyethylene monomer units and divalent dihydroxybutylene monomer units;
- b) a first antimicrobial layer comprising at least one antimicrobial compound and at least one polycarboxylic acid chelator compound having an aromatic region and an aliphatic region, wherein the carboxylic acids are disposed upon the aromatic region, the aliphatic region, or any combination thereof, and the at least one polycarboxylic acid chelator compound comprises 3-(2-carboxyphenyl) propionic acid, 3-(4-carboxyphenyl) propionic acid, 4-[(2-carboxyphenyl)amino]benzoic acid, or any combination thereof;
- and c) a porous flexible foam core;
- wherein the first antimicrobial layer is in direct contact with both the first wound-contact scrim and the foam core.
