System and method of disinfection

A UV light fixture installable in a ceiling grid and that fits within a conventional ceiling opening for tiles for disinfecting air within a room, the UV light fixture comprising:

• a support member operable to facilitate mounting the UV light fixture to the ceiling grid, whereby the UV light fixture retrofits in place of an existing conventional light fixture a surface;
• a germicidal light source operable to generate UV light;
• a UV treatment chamber having an untreated air inlet and a treated air outlet, the UV treatment chamber having an air treatment region operable to receive air from the untreated air inlet and to direct air to the treated air outlet, wherein the UV light from the germicidal light source is directed to the air treatment region;
• and
• a moveable visible light assembly that acts as a maintenance access panel to the UV treatment chamber, the moveable visible light assembly including a visible light source operable to generate visible light for illuminating the room, wherein the visible light assembly is movable between an accessible UV treatment chamber position and an inaccessible UV treatment chamber position relative to the UV treatment chamber, the moveable visible light assembly including a reflector operable to reflect visible light received from the visible light source toward the room, wherein the accessible UV treatment chamber position permits user access to the UV treatment chamber from the room while the fixture remains installed in the ceiling grid.
