Composition containing a yeast for preventing simple and/or recurring cystitis

A method of preventing simple cystitis in a woman infected by uropathogenic Escherichia coli bacteria, comprising administering to said woman by oral administration an effective amount of a composition comprising active ingredients, wherein the active ingredients of the composition consist of:

• a yeast selected from the group consisting of a live yeast, a dead yeast, yeast cell walls, purified yeast cell walls and mixtures thereof, said yeast being obtained by culture of either a Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain deposited with the CNCM on 17 Oct. 2007 under number I-3856 or a Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii strain deposited with the CNCM on 21 Aug. 2007 under number I-3799, and
• an extract selected from the group consisting of an extract of cranberry, an extract of bilberry, an extract of arbutus, an extract of red cranberry, an extract of heather and mixtures thereof,
• wherein said simple cystitis is induced by uropathogenic Escherichia coli bacteria infecting a urinary tract.

A method of inhibiting a uropathogenic Escherichia coli infection in a urinary tract in a subject, comprising administering to a subject infected with uropathogenic Escherichia coli an effective amount of a composition that reduces a presence and/or multiplication of uropathogenic Escherichia coli bacteria in the urinary tract of said subject, said composition comprising an active ingredient, wherein the active ingredient of the composition consists of a yeast selected from the group consisting of a live yeast, a dead yeast, yeast cell walls, purified yeast cell walls and mixtures thereof, said yeast being obtained by culture of either a Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain deposited with the CNCM on 17 Oct. 2007 under number I-3856 or a Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii strain deposited with the CNCM on 21 Aug. 2007 under number I-3799.
