Abstract
Disclosed herein are topical formulations of cannabidiol, such as nanoparticulate cannabidiol, methods of making such compositions, and their use in treating autoimmune diseases and disorders, e.g., alopecia areata.
Claims18
A topical composition consisting of:
- (a) nanoparticulate cannabidiol consisting of greater than 98% by weight cannabidiol and having an average particle size of about 5 nm to about 200 nm;
- and
- (b) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier,
- wherein the nanoparticulate cannabidiol is capable of penetrating into the skin,
- wherein the nanoparticulate cannabidiol is substantially free of lipid or polymeric nanocarriers, and wherein the nanoparticulate cannabidiol is present in the topical composition at a concentration of about 5 μM to about 10 μM.

A topical composition consisting of:
- (a) nanoparticulate cannabidiol consisting of greater than 98% by weight cannabidiol;
- (b) minoxidil;
- and
- (c) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier consisting of ethanol, propylene glycol, water and optionally one or more of solvent, antisolvent and adjuvant,
- wherein the cannabidiol is present at a concentration of about 200 g/ml and the minoxidil is present at a concentration of about 5% by weight.
