Abstract
The present disclosure is concerned with unilamellar liposomes and methods of making same. The disclosed unilamellar liposomes can be useful in, for example, delivering a cargo molecule (e.g., a nucleic acid) and also in inducing an immune response. This abstract is intended as a scanning tool for purposes of searching in the particular art and is not intended to be limiting of the present invention.
Claims18
A method of making a unilamellar liposome, the method comprising mixing a lipid, a terpene, and a hydrophobic cargo molecule, thereby forming a mixture, and loading the mixture into a lipid bilayer, wherein the terpene facilitates incorporation of the hydrophobic cargo molecule into the lipid bilayer.
A method of making a unilamellar liposome, the method comprising:
- (1) mixing a lipid, a terpene, and a hydrophobic cargo molecule in a solvent, wherein the terpene facilitates incorporation of the hydrophobic cargo molecule into the lipid bilayer;
- (2) evaporating the solvent to form a lipid film;
- (3) hydrating the lipid film to form a unilamellar liposome;
- and
- (4) extracting the terpene from the unilamellar liposome.
