Abstract
Implants and instruments for providing an ideal trajectory for the insertion of instruments and screws during implantation of an interbody implant in a spinal surgery are disclosed.
Claims18
A driver for implanting a bone screw into a bone through an interbody implant, the driver comprising:
- a shaft extending between a distal end and a proximal end;
- a handle coupled to the shaft at the proximal end;
- and
- a visual, audio, and touch (VAT) mechanism positioned between the proximal end and the distal end of the shaft, wherein the VAT mechanism is configured to provide an audible, visual and tactile indicators when the bone screw engages the interbody implant
- wherein the VAT mechanism comprises:
- a sleeve configured to rotate about the shaft and to translate between the proximal end and the distal end;
- a button;
- a button spring configured to bias the button radially outward relative to the shaft;
- and
- a button tooth configured to be engaged in response to proximal translation of the sleeve.

A system for implanting an interbody implant between adjacent vertebral bodies, comprising:
- an interbody implant configured to be positioned between adjacent vertebral bodies;
- a bone screw configured to secure the interbody implant to a bone of adjacent vertebral bodies;
- an insertion instrument for providing a trajectory for placement of the bone screw during implantation of the interbody implant;
- and
- a driver configured to drive the bone screw into the bone and provide feedback to a user during implantation, the driver including:
- a shaft extending between a distal end and a proximal end;
- a handle coupled to the shaft at the proximal end;
- and
- a visual, audio, and touch (VAT) mechanism positioned between the proximal end and the distal end of the shaft, wherein the VAT mechanism is configured to provide audible, visual and tactile indicators when the bone screw engages the interbody implant;
- wherein the VAT mechanism comprises:
- a sleeve configured to rotate about the shaft and to translate between the proximal end and the distal end;
- a button;
- a button spring configured to bias the button radially outward relative to the shaft;
- and
- a button tooth configured to be engaged in response to proximal translation of the sleeve.
