Abstract
Packaging systems and methods for wet storage and/or shipping of prosthetic heart valve or other medical devices are disclosed.
Claims21
A packaging system storing a prosthetic heart valve in a volume of sterilization solution, the packaging system comprising:
- a cup comprising an interior region containing the prosthetic heart valve and the volume of sterilization solution, wherein the prosthetic heart valve is unconstrained within the interior region of the cup;
- and
- a lid;
- wherein the lid is securable to the cup to provide a hermetically sealed, sterile barrier to the interior region of the cup;
- and further wherein securement of the lid to the cup is characterized by the absence of a threaded interface between the lid and the cup, wherein the lid is a thin foil or film that is heat sealable to the cup.

A wet packaged prosthetic heart valve comprising:
- a cup;
- a prosthetic heart valve contained in an interior region of the cup, wherein the prosthetic heart valve is unconstrained within the interior region of the cup;
- a volume of sterilization solution contained in the interior region of the cup;
- and
- a lid heat sealed to a rim of the cup to provide a hermetically sealed, sterile barrier to the interior region of the cup.

A packaging system storing a prosthetic heart valve in a volume of sterilization solution, the packaging system comprising:
- a wet packaged prosthetic heart valve comprising a cup comprising an interior region containing the prosthetic heart valve and the volume of sterilization solution, and a lid secured to the cup to provide a hermetically sealed, sterile barrier to the interior region of the cup;
- a flask sized to receive the wet packaged prosthetic heart valve;
- a cap configured for fluid-tight securement over an open end of the flask, wherein the wet packaged prosthetic heart valve is configured to be received within a vacuum chamber defined by the flask and the cap;
- and
- a temperature indicator device configured to convey temperature information to a location exterior of the cap and the flask that is indicative of temperature conditions of the prosthetic heart valve of the wet packaged prosthetic heart valve when the wet packaged prosthetic heart valve is received within the vacuum chamber defined by the flask and the cap.
