Abstract
An aspiration thrombectomy system includes an aspiration catheter configured to accommodate fluid and having a proximal end and a distal end. The system includes connection tubing coupled to the aspiration catheter and configured to act as a common conduit for fluid communication. The system further includes controllable valves operable to control a level of pressure, and pressure sensors positioned downstream from the distal end of the aspiration catheter. A controller is configured to determine a vascular pressure level of the patient, and to determine one or more therapeutic-benefit metrics associated with continuance of the aspiration thrombectomy procedure.

An aspiration thrombectomy system, comprising:
- an aspiration catheter having a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the aspiration catheter is configured to accommodate fluid, and wherein the distal end is configured to interface with occlusive material in a vasculature of a patient;
- connection tubing coupled to the aspiration catheter, wherein the connection tubing is configured to act as a common conduit for fluid communication between the aspiration catheter and a vacuum source;
- one or more controllable valves, wherein each valve is operable to selectively open and close to control a level of pressure in the aspiration catheter;
- one or more pressure sensors associated with the aspiration thrombectomy system;
- and
- a controller configured to, during operation of the aspiration thrombectomy system for an aspiration thrombectomy procedure:
- detect, via one or more of the pressure sensors, a set of pressure levels, wherein the set of pressure levels is a first endpoint determinant of a plurality of endpoint determinants;
- determine, one or more second endpoint determinants corresponding to one or more dynamic procedure metrics, respectively, wherein each dynamic procedure metric is determined periodically or continuously during the aspiration thrombectomy procedure;
- access, from a data storage associated with the aspiration thrombectomy system, one or more third endpoint determinants corresponding to one or more static procedure metrics, respectively, wherein each static procedure metric is associated with one or more of the patient, the aspiration thrombectomy system, the aspiration thrombectomy procedure, or a user performing the aspiration thrombectomy procedure;
- calculate, utilizing a machine-learning model, at one or more points in time during the aspiration thrombectomy procedure, based on the first endpoint determinant, the one or more second endpoint determinants, and the one or more third endpoint determinants, one or more therapeutic-benefit metrics associated with a continuance of the aspiration thrombectomy procedure;
- determine, utilizing the machine-learning model, for the one or more points in time, whether one or more of the therapeutic-benefit metrics exceeds one or more confidence metrics associated with the continuance of the aspiration thrombectomy procedure;
- and
- transmit, for the one or more points in time, to a communication device associated with the aspiration thrombectomy system, communication data configured to indicate whether one or more of the therapeutic-benefit metrics exceeds one or more of the confidence metrics associated with the continuance of the aspiration thrombectomy procedure.
One or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media associated with an aspiration thrombectomy system embodying software that is operable when executed, during an aspiration thrombectomy procedure, to:
- detect, via one or more pressure sensors associated with the aspiration thrombectomy system, a set of pressure levels, wherein the set of pressure levels is a first endpoint determinant of a plurality of endpoint determinants;
- determine one or more second endpoint determinants corresponding to one or more dynamic procedure metrics, respectively, wherein each dynamic procedure metric is determined periodically or continuously during the aspiration thrombectomy procedure;
- access, from a data storage associated with the aspiration thrombectomy system, one or more third endpoint determinants corresponding to one or more static procedure metrics, respectively, wherein each static procedure metric is associated with one or more of a patient, the aspiration thrombectomy system, the aspiration thrombectomy procedure, or a user performing the aspiration thrombectomy procedure;
- calculate, utilizing a machine-learning model, at one or more points in time during the aspiration thrombectomy procedure, based on the first endpoint determinant, the one or more second endpoint determinants, and the one or more third endpoint determinants, one or more therapeutic-benefit metrics associated with a continuance of the aspiration thrombectomy procedure;
- determine, utilizing the machine-learning model, for the one or more points in time, whether one or more of the therapeutic-benefit metrics exceeds one or more confidence metrics associated with the continuance of the aspiration thrombectomy procedure;
- and
- transmit, for the one or more points in time, to a communication device associated with the aspiration thrombectomy system, communication data configured to indicate whether one or more of the therapeutic-benefit metrics exceeds one or more of the confidence metrics associated with the continuance of the aspiration thrombectomy procedure.
A method for aspiration thrombectomy, comprising:
- detecting, by a controller of an aspiration thrombectomy system, during an aspiration thrombectomy procedure, via one or more pressure sensors associated with the aspiration thrombectomy system, a set of pressure levels, wherein the set of pressure levels is a first endpoint determinant of a plurality of endpoint determinants;
- determining, by the controller of the aspiration thrombectomy system, one or more second endpoint determinants corresponding to one or more dynamic procedure metrics, respectively, wherein each dynamic procedure metric is determined periodically or continuously during the aspiration thrombectomy procedure;
- accessing, by the controller of the aspiration thrombectomy system, from a data storage associated with the aspiration thrombectomy system, one or more third endpoint determinants corresponding to one or more static procedure metrics, respectively, wherein each static procedure metric is associated with one or more of a patient, the aspiration thrombectomy system, the aspiration thrombectomy procedure, or a user performing the aspiration thrombectomy procedure;
- calculating, by the controller of the aspiration thrombectomy system, utilizing a machine-learning model, at one or more points in time during the aspiration thrombectomy procedure, based on the first endpoint determinant, the one or more second endpoint determinants, and the one or more third endpoint determinants, one or more therapeutic-benefit metrics associated with a continuance of the aspiration thrombectomy procedure;
- determining, by the controller of the aspiration thrombectomy system, utilizing the machine-learning model, for the one or more points in time, whether one or more of the therapeutic-benefit metrics exceeds one or more confidence metrics associated with the continuance of the aspiration thrombectomy procedure;
