Abstract
Devices and methods for occluding or promoting fluid flow through openings are disclosed. In one exemplary embodiment an occlusion device is provided having an expandable outer elongate tubular body, a guide member extending from a distal end of the outer body, and a slide tube disposed within the outer body, the proximal portions of the outer body and the slide tube being fixedly mated. The slide tube is configured to slide distally within the outer tubular body when the tubular body is expanded to form wings. A tether can be included as part of the device and it can be used to assist in positioning and locking a location of the device in an opening. Exemplary methods for delivering devices disclosed herein are also provided.
Claims15
A surgical implant, comprising:
- an elongate tubular body including an inner tube nested within an outer tube, the inner and outer tubes being fixedly mated at respective distal ends thereof, the outer tube including a plurality of proximal slits on a proximal portion thereof and a plurality of distal slits on a distal portion thereof;
- an elongate guide member disposed within the elongate tubular body and configured to occlude fluid flow through the elongate tubular body, the elongate guide member extending proximally from a proximal end of the elongate tubular body;
- and
- a pointed tip extending distally from the elongate tubular body, the pointed tip including external threads on an exterior thereof and being configured to be advanced into tissue including bone;
- wherein the outer tube is configured to rotate relative to the inner tube under an application of torsional force such that the proximal portion and the distal portion splay radially outward to form proximal and distal wings in a deployed configuration;
- and
- wherein the elongate guide member is separable from the elongate tubular body.
A surgical implant, comprising:
- an elongate tubular body including an inner tube nested within an outer tube, the inner and outer tubes being fixedly mated at respective distal ends thereof, the outer tube being configured to rotate and longitudinally compress relative to the inner tube to form radial proximal and distal wings on respective proximal and distal portions thereof, the elongate tubular body including a flexible tubular portion extending distally therefrom and defining a portion of a fluid flow path;
- an elongate guide member disposed within and separably connected to the elongate tubular body to occlude fluid flow through the fluid flow path of the elongate tubular body, the elongate guide member extending proximally from a proximal end of the elongate tubular body;
- and
- a tether having a distal portion disposed within the elongate tubular body and extending proximally therefrom.
The surgical implant of 9, wherein the pointed tip includes external threads on an exterior thereof.
