Abstract
Infant formulae with a very low level of arsenic are obtained by selecting the components of the infant formula very carefully. For manufacturing infant formulae that comprise less than 95 parts per billion (ppb) of arsenic, it is preferred to use human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) that have been isolated from a fermentation broth without using activated carbon in the last purification step. The preferred HMO is 2′-O-fucosyllactose.
Claims20
An infant formula comprising:
- a) a fermentation product comprising at least one human milk oligosaccharide (HMO), wherein the at least HMO is at least 0.5 weight-%, based on the total weight of the infant formula,
- b) an algae oil or fungi oil comprising docosahexaenoic acid or arachidonic acid,
- c) corn maltodextrin,
- and
- d) less than 5 weight-% water, based on the total weight of the infant formula, wherein the infant formula comprises less than 95 parts per billion of arsenic, wherein the fermentation product has been subjected to a final purification step, and wherein the final purification step is crystallization or not activated charcoal treatment.

- b) microencapsulated algae oil, microencapsulated fungi oil, or a mixture thereof,
- c) corn maltodextrin,
- d) less than 5 weight-% of rice maltodextrin, based on the total weight of the infant formula,
