Abstract
A device formed by a substantially cylindrical, permeable sheath with a filling of biochar particles. The whole sheath is water-permeable, and defines a bottom part intended to be buried into ground, and a top part, intended to stand out from the ground. The device, ensures the deep infiltration of rainwater, irrigation water or run-off, thereby preventing it from evaporating and optimising the use. A method for using the device is effective for increasing a crop yield.
Claims22
A device for facilitating an infiltration of water into a ground, the device comprising:
- a substantially cylindrical sheath comprising:
- a water-permeable wall;
- a bottom part defined by a majority of a length of the water-permeable wall;
- a top part defined by a minority of the length of the water-permeable wall;
- a plurality of biochar particles having a size of between 2 and 100 mm, housed in the bottom part, and
- a plurality of particles of non-capillary material housed in the top part;
- wherein:
- the non-capillary material is non-capillary gravel;
- the bottom part is configured to be placed substantially fully into the ground;
- the top part is configured to be substantially uncovered by the ground when the bottom part is placed into the ground;
- and
- the water-permeable wall fully encloses the plurality of biochar particles and the plurality of particles of non-capillary material.
