Systems and methods for selectively storing specific versions of media assets

A system comprising:

• a memory;
• control circuitry configured to:
• access, based on a profile of a user, information about media assets that were previously stored in relation to the profile;
• determine, based on the information about the media assets that were previously stored in relation to the profile, a user preference for a first characteristic of media assets;
• determine whether the first characteristic is included in a data structure indicating characteristics for which storing should be performed;
• based on determining that the first characteristic is not included in the data structure indicating the characteristics for which storing should be performed, automatically updating the data structure indicating the characteristics for which storing should be performed to include the characteristic;
• assign a first priority value to the first characteristic based on the user preference input/output circuitry configured to:
• receive, from a device of the user, a request to store a media asset;
• and
• wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
• determine that each of a first version of the media asset with the first characteristic and a second version of the media asset with a second characteristic is available to store;
• determine that the first priority value of the first characteristic is higher than a second priority value of the second characteristic;
• and
• based on the determining that the first priority value of the first characteristic is higher than the second priority value of the second characteristic, cause the first version of the media asset with the first characteristic to be stored in relation to the profile and refrain from storing the second version of the media asset in relation to the profile.

A system comprising

• a memory;
• control circuitry configured to:
• access, based on a profile of the user, information about media assets that were previously stored in relation to the profile;
• determine, based on the information about the media assets that were previously stored in relation to the profile, a first characteristic preferred by the user;
• determine whether the first characteristic is included in a data structure indicating characteristics for which storing should be performed;
• based on determining that the first characteristic is not included in the data structure indicating the characteristics for which storing should be performed, automatically updating the data structure indicating the characteristics for which storing should be performed to include the first characteristic;
• and
• input/output circuitry configured to:
• receive, from a device of a user, a request to store a media asset;
• and
• wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
• in response to receiving the request to store the media asset, cause a first version of the media asset with the first characteristic to be stored in relation to the profile,
• receive a request, from the device of the user, to store a second version of the media asset with a second characteristic, wherein the second characteristic is different from the first characteristic;
• generate for display, on the device, a user-selectable option to delete the first version of the media asset;
• and
• in response to receiving a selection of the user-selectable option to delete the first version of the media asset, assign a priority value to the first characteristic that is lower than a priority value corresponding to the second characteristic.
