Filtering applied to prediction in video coding

A device for decoding video data, the device comprising:

• a memory configured to store video data;
• one or more processors implemented in circuitry and configured to:
• determine a block vector for a current block of a current picture of video data;
• determine a reference block for the current block using the block vector, wherein the reference block is in the current picture;
• determine a prediction block based on the reference block;
• determine that a local illumination compensation mode is disabled for the current block;
• determine to apply filtering to the prediction block in response to determining that the local illumination compensation mode is disabled for the current block;
• based on determining that the filtering is to be applied to the prediction block:
• compare a template of the reference block to a template of the current block;
• filter the prediction block based on the comparing of the template of the reference block to the template of the current block to determine a filtered prediction block;
• decode the current block based on the filtered prediction block to determine a decoded version of the current block;
• and
• output a decoded picture of the video data comprising the decoded version of the current block.

A computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that when executed by one or more processors cause the one or more processors to:

• determine a block vector for a current block of a current picture of video data;
• determine a reference block for the current block using the block vector, wherein the reference block is in the current picture;
• determine a prediction block based on the reference block;
• determine that a local illumination compensation mode is disabled for the current block;
• determine to apply filtering to the prediction block in response to determining that the local illumination compensation mode is disabled for the current block;
• based on determining that the filtering is to be applied to the prediction block:
• compare a template of the reference block to a template of the current block;
• filter the prediction block based on the comparing of the template of the reference block to the template of the current block to determine a filtered prediction block;
• decode the current block based on the filtered prediction block to determine a decoded version of the current block;
• and
• output a decoded picture of the video data comprising the decoded version of the current block.
