Abstract
Disclosed are systems and methods for encryption key management. Content items, or portions thereof, can be assigned to a plurality of partitions. Each of the plurality of partitions can correspond to a timeframe of encryption key rotation. Cache control can be applied to manifests and/or content based on the timeframe of encryption key rotation.
Claims27
A method comprising:
- associating, based on a plurality of characteristics of content, a plurality of content items with a plurality of partitions, wherein each partition is associated with a characteristic of content of the plurality of characteristics of content;
- for the plurality of partitions, determining a corresponding plurality of encryption key rotation times;
- and
- generating, for a content item and based on a corresponding partition of the plurality of partitions, a manifest comprising cache control data indicating an encryption key rotation time and an indication of validity of the manifest based on the encryption key rotation time.

An apparatus, comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- a memory storing processor-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the apparatus to:
- associate, based on a plurality of characteristics of content, a plurality of content items with a plurality of partitions, wherein each partition is associated with a characteristic of content of the plurality of characteristics of content;
- for the plurality of partitions, determine a corresponding plurality of encryption key rotation times;
- and
- generate, for a content item and based on a corresponding partition of the plurality of partitions, a manifest comprising cache control data indicating an encryption key rotation time and an indication of validity of the manifest based on the encryption key rotation time.

- a computing device configured to:
- associate, based on a plurality of characteristics of content, a plurality of content items with a plurality of partitions, wherein each partition is associated with a characteristic of content of the plurality of characteristics of content;

- generate, for a content item and based on a corresponding partition of the plurality of partitions, a manifest comprising cache control data indicating an encryption key rotation time;

- a user device configured to receive the manifest and an indication of validity of the manifest based on the encryption key rotation time.
