Abstract
A system and method for providing updates to medical devices is disclosed. In one example, the medical devices are configured to pull update files in response to the reception of an update message from a server. Once the update files are downloaded by a medical device, the update files can be installed. While the medical device pulls the update files, the medical device can continue with its normal operation. If desired, a user can select which medical devices should be updated, based on any desired factors, such as the physical location of the device, the model of the device, the type of device, and the way the device is being used.
Claims21
An infusion pump configured to administer medication to a patient, the infusion pump comprising:
- a display screen comprising a user interface configured to permit a user to monitor and operate the infusion pump;
- and
- one or more memory storage locations;
- said infusion pump configured to enable:
- downloading, wirelessly, one or more update files for a drug library from a remote server, the drug library comprising information about drug dosing rate and volume, and the downloading being pulled by the infusion pump such that after receiving a location of the one or more update files on the remote server, the infusion pump controls the downloading of the one or more update files;
- storing the one or more update files in the one or more memory storage locations of the infusion pump while the infusion pump is administering medication to a patient, without affecting normal operation of the infusion pump;
- and
- waiting for an update time when the one or more update files can be installed, wherein the installation of the one or more update files requires receiving an acceptance of the installation from a user through the user interface.

- storing the one or more update files in the one or more memory storage locations of the infusion pump while the infusion pump is administering medication to a patient, without affecting normal operation of the infusion pump;
- and
- waiting for an update time when the one or more update files can be installed, wherein the installation of the one or more update files does not require assent of the user.
