Abstract
The present invention relates to a method and system for analysing audio (eg. music) tracks. A predictive model of the neuro-physiological functioning and response to sounds by one or more of the human lower cortical, limbic and subcortical regions in the brain is described. Sounds are analysed so that appropriate sounds can be selected and played to a listener in order to stimulate and/or manipulate neuro-physiological arousal in that listener. The method and system are particularly applicable to applications harnessing a biofeedback resource.
Claims15
A computer-implemented system for analyzing sounds, such as audio tracks or any other types of sounds, the system comprising:
- a processor programmed to analyze a sound using a plurality of musical parameters;
- wherein at least one of the plurality of musical parameters relates to turbulence (T), being a measure of rate of change and extent of change in musical experience of the sound over time;
- wherein the processor is programmed to determine turbulence (T) using an equation that links T to harmonicity (H) and energy during peak volume (P);
- wherein the processor is programmed to produce, based on the analysis of the sound, a result representing a musical effect corresponding to the sound;
- and
- a computer-readable storage medium for storing said result and associating it with the sound, so that sounds with a desired musical effect can be selected and played to a listener.
A computer-implemented system for analyzing sounds, such as audio tracks or any other types of sounds, the system comprising:
- a processor programmed to analyze a sound using a plurality of musical parameters,
- wherein the processor is programmed to:
- identify, for each of a plurality of time-slices of the sound, a principal fundamental frequency corresponding to the time-slice;
- and
- determine, for each of said plurality of time-slices of the sound, a harmonicity (H), representing a degree to which the time-slice of the sound corresponds to a harmonic series;
- wherein at least one of the plurality of musical parameters relates to linear harmonic cost (LHC), which corresponds to the rate of change over time of said principal fundamental frequency over the course of said plurality of time-slices of the sound;
- wherein the processor is further programmed to produce, based on the analysis of the sound, a result representing a musical effect corresponding to the sound;
- and
- a computer-readable storage medium for storing said result and associating it with the sound, so that sounds with a desired musical effect can be selected and played to a listener.

- wherein the processor is programmed to produce, based on the analysis of the sound, a result representing a musical effect corresponding to the sound;
- and
- a computer-readable storage medium for storing said result and associating it with the sound, in order to estimate the affect of a listener based on sounds that have been played to the listener in the recent past.
