System and method for providing electronic commerce data

A method for operating an e-commerce system to allow multiple retailer products to be e-commerce enabled within a publisher website, comprising:

• collecting, by an e-commerce computing system, merchandise data from a plurality of sources wherein the merchandise data identifies merchandise;
• converting, by the e-commerce computing system, different formats of the merchandise data into a common format;
• aggregating, by the e-commerce computing system, different sets of merchandise data based on relevance of the merchandise to specific topics covered by content contained in at least one electronic document of a type other than a webpage, the electronic document comprising an article, image or video;
• generating, by the e-commerce system, a merchandise ad frame including a respective set of the different sets of merchandise data and one or more links;
• automatically mapping, by a publisher computing system, the merchandise ad frame to a respective location within the at least one electronic document based on (i) characteristics of at least one piece of merchandise to which the merchandise ad frame is associated and (ii) a topic covered by other content contained at the respective location within the at least one electronic document;
• rendering, by the publisher computing system or another computing system, the at least one electronic document in a graphical user interface of the publisher website;
• using the mapping to render the merchandise ad frame on or adjacent the other content of the at least one electronic document rendered in the graphical user interface of the publisher website;
• in response to receiving selection of a link of the one or more links:
• adding a tag having a unique identifier corresponding to an e-commerce frame to the electronic document;
• causing an e-commerce frame having the corresponding identifier to be rendered within the graphical user interface based on the added tag in the electronic document.
