Abstract
Embodiments relate to an optimal technique for building indexes on databases. Aspects include receiving a request to build a new index for a column in a table, determining that an existing index includes the column requested in the request, and extracting the record identifiers associated with the column from the existing index. Aspects include building the new index as a data structure comprising the record identifiers extracted from the existing index without parsing the table.
Claims20
A computer-implemented method comprising:
- receiving a request to build a new index for a column in a table stored in memory, wherein the request to build the new index is generated by an artificial intelligence (AI) engine based on a frequency of use for the column requested in the table;
- checking whether an existing index on the table includes the column requested in the request to build the new index generated by the AI engine;
- in response to the checking, determining that the existing index includes the column requested in the request;
- extracting record identifiers associated with the column from the existing index;
- and
- building the new index as a data structure comprising the record identifiers extracted from the existing index without parsing the table;
- and
- causing data from the table in the memory to be displayed on a user device, based on the new index.
A system comprising:
- one or more memories having computer readable instructions;
- and
- one or more processors for executing the computer readable instructions, the computer readable instructions when executed cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
- receiving a request to build a new index for a column in a table stored in memory, wherein the request to build the new index is generated by an artificial intelligence (AI) engine based on a frequency of use for the column requested in the table;
- checking whether an existing index on the table includes the column requested in the request to build the new index generated by the AI engine;
- in response to the checking, determining that the existing index includes the column requested in the request;
- extracting record identifiers associated with the column from the existing index;
- building the new index as a data structure comprising the record identifiers extracted from the existing index without parsing the table;
- and
- causing data from the table in the memory to be displayed on a user device, based on the new index.
A computer program product comprising a computer readable storage medium having program instructions embodied therewith, the program instructions executable by one or more processors to cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
- receiving a request to build a new index for a column in a table stored in memory, wherein the request to build the new index is generated by an artificial intelligence (AI) engine based on a frequency of use for the column requested in the table;
- checking whether an existing index on the table includes the column requested in the request to build the new index generated by the AI engine;
- in response to the checking, determining that the existing index includes the column requested in the request;
- extracting record identifiers associated with the column from the existing index;
- building the new index as a data structure comprising the record identifiers extracted from the existing index without parsing the table;
- and
- causing data from the table in the memory to be displayed on a user device, based on the new index.
