Abstract
A lever latching system comprising: a housing; a lever having a latch pin fixedly mounted to the lever, the lever being movably mounted to the housing so that the latch pin moves in an arc; and a latch plate movably mounted to the housing for linear movement with respect to the housing, the latch plate comprising a labyrinth for receiving the latch pin.
Claims20
A latching mechanism comprising:
- a housing;
- an actuation member including a latch pin fixedly mounted to the actuation member, the actuation member movably mounted to the housing such that the latch pin is configured to move in an orbit relative to the housing;
- a latch plate movably mounted to the housing such that the latch plate moves linearly when the latch plate is engaged by the latch pin, the latch plate including a labyrinth for receiving the latch pin;
- and
- a selector plate movably mounted to the housing and movably coupled to the latch plate, the selector plate movable between:
- an engaged position where the labyrinth of the latch plate intersects the orbit of the latch pin;
- and
- a disengaged position where the labyrinth of the latch plate does not intersect the orbit of the latch pin.

A latching mechanism of a surgical device, the latching mechanism comprising:
- a housing;
- an actuation member pivotally connected to the housing;
- a latch pin connected to the actuation member, the latch pin configured to move in an arc;
- a latch plate movably connected to the housing, the latch plate including a latch element for selectively receiving the latch pin, the latch pin and the latch element engageable to move the latch plate linearly relative to the housing;
- and
- a selector plate movably connected to the housing and movably connected to the latch plate, the selector plate movable between:
- a first configuration where the latch element intersects the arc of the latch pin;
- and
- a second configuration where the latch element does not intersect the arc of the latch pin.

A latching system for a surgical forceps, the latching system comprising:
- a housing;
- a lever having a latch pin fixedly mounted to the lever, the lever being movably mounted to the housing so that the latch pin moves in an arc;
- and
- a latch plate movably mounted to the housing such that the latch plate moves linearly when the latch plate is engaged by the latch pin, the latch plate comprising a labyrinth for receiving the latch pin;
- and
- wherein the latch plate is movably mounted to a selector plate, and further wherein the selector plate is movably mounted to the housing;
- wherein the selector plate is movable between (i) an engaged position wherein the labyrinth of the latch plate intersects the arc of the latch pin, and (ii) a disengaged position wherein the labyrinth of the latch plate does not intersect the arc of the latch pin.
