Abstract
Systems and methods for managing power on an electric power grid including a server for communicating IP-based messages over a network with distributed power consuming devices and/or power supplying devices, the IP-based messages including information including a change in state of the power consuming device(s), a directive for a change in state of the power consuming device(s), a priority message, an alert, a status, an update, a location with respect to the electric power grid, a function, device attributes, and combinations thereof.
Claims20
A system for managing power on an electric power grid, the system comprising:
- at least one active load client associated with a respective at least one service point and configured to transmit at least one power reduction command to at least one power consuming device in response to power reduction messages;
- and
- at least one server configured to:
- send the power reduction messages to the at least one active load client based on market participant dispatch commands;
- based on information associated with the at least one service point, including charge status, set points, and/or customer preferences, generate a charging profile for the at least one service point;
- based at least in part on the charging profile for the at least one service point, generate a value for the at least one power consuming device and/or the at least one active load client;
- aggregate the value for the at least one power consuming device and/or the at least one active load client into at least one Power Trade Block (PTB) unit able to be sold on an energy settlement marketplace, with a clearing price based on a geodetic location of the at least one service point where the value is generated;
- receive a request for a respective amount of at least one type of operating reserves;
- and
- send the at least one power reduction message to the at least one active load client, causing the at least one active load client to transmit the at least one power reduction command to the at least one power consuming device based on the request for the respective amount of the at least one type of operating reserves,
- wherein the value is utilized as contingency reserves for a power utility and/or grid operator, and
- wherein the at least one power reduction command is configured to cause the at least one power consuming device to curtail power consumption in near real time.
A system for managing power on an electric power grid, comprising:
- at least one server configured to:
- send power reduction messages to at least one active load client associated with at least one service point based on market participant dispatch commands;
- based on information associated with the at least one service point, including charge status, set points, and/or customer preferences, generate a charging profile for the at least one service point;
- based at least in part on the charging profile, generate a value;
- aggregate the value for the at least one power consuming device into at least one Power Trade Block (PTB) unit able to be sold on an energy settlement marketplace, with a clearing price based on a geodetic location of the at least one service point where the value is generated;
- receive a request for a respective amount of at least one type of operating reserves;
- determine when and to which of the at least one power consuming device to send at least one power reduction command based on the requested amount of the at least one type of operating reserves;
- and
- send at least one power reduction message to at least one active load client based on the request for the respective amount of the at least one type of operating reserves,
- wherein the at least one power consuming device includes at least one electric vehicle;
- wherein, in response to the power reduction messages, the at least one active load client transmits at least one power reduction command to the at least one power consuming device;
- wherein the at least one power reduction command causes the at least one power consuming device to curtail power consumption in near real time;
- and
- wherein the value is utilized as contingency reserves for a power utility and/or grid operator.
A method for managing power on an electric power grid, the method comprising:
- based on market participant dispatch commands, at least one server sending power reduction messages to at least one active load client associated with a respective at least one service point and at least one power consuming device;
- based on information associated with the at least one service point, including charge status, set points, and/or customer preferences, the at least one server generating a charging profile for the at least one service point;
- based at least in part on the charging profile, the at least one server generating a value for at least one device located at the at least one service point;
- the at least one server aggregating the value for the at least one device located at the at least one service point into at least one Power Trade Block (PTB) unit able to be sold on an energy settlement marketplace, with a clearing price based on a geodetic location of the at least one service point where the value is generated;
- the at least one server receiving a request for a respective amount of at least one type of operating reserves;
- based on the request for the respective amount of the at least one type of operating reserves, the at least one server sending the at least one power reduction command to the at least one power consuming device to cause the at least one power consuming device to curtail power consumption in near real time;
- and
- utilizing the value as contingency reserves for a power utility and/or grid operator.
