Abstract
A liquid crystal pixel includes liquid crystals, a source electrode, and a transparent common electrode layer. The liquid crystals are configured to change an alignment of the liquid crystals in response to a voltage applied across the source electrode and the transparent common electrode layer. The slit in the transparent common electrode layer includes multiple angled sections.
Claims20
A liquid crystal pixel comprising:
- liquid crystals;
- a source electrode;
- and
- a transparent common electrode layer, wherein the liquid crystals are configured to change an alignment of the liquid crystals in response to a voltage applied across the source electrode and the transparent common electrode layer, wherein:
- a slit in the transparent common electrode layer includes at least five angled sections, and
- a main section of the at least five sections being oriented at a main angle, the orienting enabling decreasing of a response time of the liquid crystal panel.

A head-mounted display (HMD) comprising:
- a lens configured to focus display light;
- and
- an array of display pixels configured to generate display light, wherein the display pixels in the array include:
- liquid crystals;
- a source electrode;
- and
- a transparent common electrode layer, wherein the liquid crystals are configured to change an alignment of the liquid crystals in response to an electric field, wherein:
- a slit in the transparent common electrode layer includes multiple angled sections, and
- a main section of the at least five sections being oriented at a main angle, the orienting enabling decreasing of a response time of the liquid crystal panel.

A liquid crystal display (LCD) comprising:
- a backlight unit to generate illumination light;
- and
- an array of display pixels configured to receive the illumination light and modulate the illumination light to generate display light, wherein the display pixels include:
- liquid crystals;
- a source electrode;
- and
- a transparent common electrode layer, wherein the liquid crystals are configured to change an alignment of the liquid crystals in response to an electric field, wherein:
- a slit in the transparent common electrode layer includes multiple angled sections, and
- a main section of the at least five sections being oriented at a main angle, the orienting enabling decreasing of a response time of the liquid crystal panel.
