Abstract
The present invention provides a method for producing a full engagement Pittsburgh male lock using specific cutting assemblies and protocols that reduce the amount of metal that is removed from the male portion of the corner notches in the duct. Forming of the male portion of the lock is done after the connecting flange forming has been completed as opposed to before the connecting flange forming has been completed.
Claims1
A method of arranging a HVAC forming apparatus, comprising the steps of:
- providing a frame portion of said HVAC forming apparatus to accept a metal workpiece;
- providing a cutting portion of said HVAC forming apparatus to selectively cut a female lock seam notch in said workpiece;
- providing a bending portion of said HVAC forming apparatus to selectively bend said workpiece with said female lock seam notch into a female lock seam;
- providing a flange portion of said HVAC forming apparatus to selectively form duct connection flanges in said workpiece;
- providing a male seam forming portion of said HVAC forming apparatus, said male seam forming portion selectively manipulating said workpiece to define a male lock seam;
- and
- positioning said male seam forming portion at a position in said metal forming apparatus that is downstream of said first portion, said second portion and said third portion;
- and wherein said male seam forming portion forms said male seam along one lateral edge of said workpiece without first notching said one lateral edge.
