Abstract
An assembly is provided for an aircraft propulsion system. This assembly includes an open propulsor rotor and a nose cone. The open propulsor rotor is configured to rotate about an axis. The nose cone is upstream of and is configured to rotate with the open propulsor rotor. The nose cone extends axially along the axis from a forward tip end of the nose cone to an aft base end of the nose cone that is adjacent the open propulsor rotor. The nose cone includes an air scoop arranged at an intermediate location between the forward tip end of the nose cone and the aft base end of the nose cone. The air scoop is configured to direct air from an environment external to the aircraft propulsion system into an interior of the nose cone.
Claims16
An assembly for an aircraft propulsion system, comprising:
- an open propulsor rotor configured to rotate about an axis;
- and
- a nose cone upstream of and configured to rotate with the open propulsor rotor, the nose cone extending axially along the axis from a forward tip end of the nose cone to an aft base end of the nose cone that is adjacent the open propulsor rotor, the nose cone comprising an air scoop arranged at an intermediate location between the forward tip end of the nose cone and the aft base end of the nose cone, and the air scoop configured to direct air from an environment external to the aircraft propulsion system into an interior of the nose cone;
- wherein the air scoop extends circumferentially about the axis with a full-hoop geometry;
- wherein the nose cone further comprises an exterior sidewall extending axially along and circumferentially about the axis;
- wherein the air scoop is formed by the exterior sidewall;
- and
- wherein the exterior sidewall comprises a forward section and an aft section, a forward end of the aft section projecting axially forward of an aft end of the forward section forming a radial step at the air scoop.
