Abstract
The present invention relates to a cellulosic fiber substrate, comprising at least one top surface and at least one bottom surface. The cellulosic fiber substrate further comprises 60 to 90 wt % of cellulosic fibers having a length of maximum 10 mm, 0 to 10% of an acidic curing catalyst and 10 to 40 wt % of a binding agent selected form the group consisting of: cellulose, hemicellulose, furan, lignin and combinations thereof.
Claims19
A cellulosic fiber substrate, comprising:
- at least one top surface, and
- at least one bottom surface,
- wherein the cellulosic fiber substrate further includes
- 60 to 90 wt % of cellulosic fibers having a length of maximum 10 mm,
- 0 to 10% of an acidic curing catalyst, and
- 10 to 40 wt % of a binding agent selected from the group consisting of:
- cellulose, hemicellulose, furan, lignin and combinations thereof.
A method for manufacturing a cellulosic fiber substrate comprising at least one top surface and at least one bottom surface, the method comprising:
- a) providing at least one sheet of cellulosic fibers having a maximum length of 10 mm;
- b) impregnating the at least one sheet of cellulosic fibers with a mix of an acidic curing catalyst and a binding agent selected from the group consisting of:
- cellulose, hemicellulose, furan, lignin and combinations thereof, to obtain at least one sheet of impregnated cellulosic fibers;
- c) pre-curing the at least one sheet of impregnated cellulosic fibers by applying heat in a range of 50-300° C., to obtain one or more prepregs;
- d) arranging the one or more prepregs in a stack;
- and
- e) pressing said stack in a pressing tool at a pressure of at least 7 kg/cm2 and a temperature of at least 60° C. during a time period of at least 10 seconds, to obtain the cellulosic fiber substrate having the at least one top surface and the at least one bottom surface,
- wherein said cellulosic fiber substrate includes
- 60 to 90 wt % of said cellulosic fibers,
- 0 to 10 wt % of said acidic curing catalyst, and
- 10 to 40 wt % of said binding agent.
