Abstract
The presently disclosed subject matter relates generally to precisely integrating spatially-defined three-dimensional cell aggregates with complimentary cell-cultures within a co-culture system. In particular it relates to holding cell aggregates a defined distance from complimentary cell-cultures.
Claims20
A heterogeneous co-culture system, wherein said system comprises a pair of inert, axially magnetized rings held at a fixed distance apart, wherein the fixed distance is less than 0.5 mm;
- and wherein the heterogeneous co-culture system:
- accommodates cell cultures growing in 2 dimensions and cell cultures growing in 3 dimensions;
- provides spatial compartmentalization and controllable positioning of 2D cell cultures and 3D tissue and tumor cultures;
- and
- integrates the cell cultures growing in 2 dimensions and the cell cultures growing in 3 dimensions in a reversibly attachable manner.
A heterogeneous co-culture system, wherein said system comprises a pair of inert, axially magnetized rings positioned at a fixed distance between 0.1 mm and 0.5 mm;
- and
- wherein the heterogeneous co-culture system is configured to:
- accommodate a plurality of cell cultures growing in at least two dimensions;
- provide spatial compartmentalization and controllable positioning of two-dimensional cell cultures and three-dimensional tissue and tumor cultures;
- and
- integrate the plurality of cell cultures growing in the at least two dimensions in a reversibly attachable manner.
A method, the method comprising:
- accommodating a plurality of two dimensional cell cultures and a plurality of three dimensional tissue and tumor cultures within a heterogeneous co-culture platform comprising a pair of inert, axially magnetized rings held at a fixed distance apart, wherein the fixed distance is less than 0.5 mm;
- providing spatial compartmentalization and controllable positioning of the plurality of two dimensional cell cultures and the plurality of three dimensional tissue and tumor cultures within the heterogeneous co-culture platform;
- and
- integrating the plurality of two dimensional cell cultures and the plurality of three dimensional tissue and tumor cultures within the heterogeneous co-culture platform in a reversibly attachable manner.
