Abstract
A method and system for water purification includes a particle accelerator configured to generate a particle beam and a conduit configured to be substantially in line with the particle beam wherein said electron beam is incident on a fluid flowing through the conduit. The electron beam can be oriented to be substantially head on to the direction of flow of the fluid in the conduit. A shielding assembly can be configured around the conduit. A cartridge filtering system and contaminant filtering system can be provided to remove additional contaminants.
Claims6
A purification method comprising:
- generating a particle beam with a particle accelerator;
- creating a fluid flow through a conduit wherein said particle beam is incident on said fluid flowing through a substantially vertical treatment portion of said conduit wherein the particle beam and the substantially vertical treatment portion of the conduit are configured to be substantially parallel at a point in the substantially vertical treatment portion of the conduit where the particle beam is incident on the fluid, and wherein a length of the substantially vertical treatment portion of the conduit is at least a factor of 2 greater than a diameter of the substantially vertical treatment portion of the conduit wherein the fluid flow comprises a substantially laminar flow in the substantially vertical treatment portion of said conduit;
- focusing the particle beam to reduce a diameter of the particle beam to be substantially equivalent to an inner diameter of the substantially vertical treatment portion of the conduit;
- receiving input from a flow meter;
- controlling, with a controller, a power of said particle beam and a flow rate of said fluid flowing through said conduit according to the received input from the flow meter and a desired dosage;
- and
- directing a treated fluid flow through a seepage drain in the conduit, to a spigot.
