Reel based closure system

A reel based closure device comprising:

• a housing having an interior and a plurality of radially oriented teeth;
• a spool positioned within the interior of the housing, the spool comprising a plurality of radially oriented teeth;
• a pawl operably coupled with the spool to allow the spool to rotate in a first direction while preventing rotation of the spool in a second direction, the pawl include two separate pieces, the pawl having first arms that are configured to engage the radially oriented teeth of the housing and second arms that are configured to engage the radially oriented teeth of the spool;
• and
• a knob operably coupled with the pawl such that a rotation of the knob in the first direction causes the pawl and spool to rotate in the first direction;
• and
• protrusions or tabs that are configured to cause the second arms to engage the radially oriented teeth of the spool when the knob is rotated in the first direction and that are configured such that the second arms disengage the radially oriented teeth of the spool when the knob is rotated in the second direction;
• wherein the first arms consist of two first arms and the second arms consist of two second arms.

A reel based closure device comprising:

• a housing having an interior and a plurality of radially oriented teeth;
• a spool positioned within the interior of the housing, the spool comprising a plurality of radially oriented teeth;
• a pawl operably coupled with the spool to allow the spool to rotate in a first direction while preventing rotation of the spool in a second direction, the pawl having a plurality of first arms that are configured to engage the radially oriented teeth of the housing and one or more second arms that are configured to engage the radially oriented teeth of the spool, the pawl having a central opening;
• and
• a knob operably coupled with the pawl such that a rotation of the knob in the first direction causes the pawl and spool to rotate in the first direction;
• wherein the radially oriented teeth of the spool extend axially through the central opening of the pawl;
• and
• wherein the plurality of first arms consists of diametrically positioned cantilevered arms.

A reel based closure device comprising:

• a housing having an interior and a plurality of radially oriented teeth;
• a spool positioned within the interior of the housing, the spool comprising a plurality of radially oriented teeth;
• a pawl operably coupled with the spool to allow the spool to rotate in a first direction while preventing rotation of the spool in a second direction, the pawl having a plurality of first arms that are configured to engage the radially oriented teeth of the housing and a plurality of second arms that are configured to engage the radially oriented teeth of the spool;
• and
• a knob operably coupled with the pawl such that a rotation of the knob in the first direction causes the pawl and spool to rotate in the first direction, the knob being configured to apply a radial inward force to the plurality of second arms to cause the plurality of second arms to engage the radially oriented teeth of the spool;
• wherein without the radial inward force being applied to the plurality of second arms to cause the plurality of second arms to engage the radially oriented teeth of the spool, the spool is disengaged from the pawl and is rotatable in the second direction;
• and
• wherein the plurality of second arms consists of two second arms with each second arm positioned on a separate component.
