Railway management system with brake calculation and related method

A computer-implemented method for positioning of wayside signals, the method comprising:

• providing a graphical user interface for selecting a position of a first wayside signal for a railway having a plurality of sequentially arranged blocks, each block bounded by an entry wayside signal and an exit wayside signal;
• receiving a selected position of the first wayside signal via the graphical user interface;
• obtaining railway parameters indicative of a configuration of the railway and one or more rail transit vehicles operable on the railway;
• determining a braking distance based on the railway parameters and the selected position of the first wayside signal for the block bounded by the first wayside signal and for each block whose braking distance is affected by the selected position;
• determining a proposed position of a second wayside signal for the railway based on the braking distance, and for the entry wayside signal and/or the exit wayside signal of any of the blocks whose braking distance is affected by the selected position and/or the proposed position;
• and
• displaying on the graphical user interface the proposed position of the second wayside signal and that of the entry wayside signal and/or the exit wayside signal of any of the blocks whose braking distance is affected by the selected position and/or the proposed position.

A computer-implemented method for positioning of wayside signals, the method comprising:

• operating a graphical user interface of a railway having a plurality of blocks, each said block having an entry wayside signal and an exit wayside signal, the blocks of the plurality being sequentially arranged;
• receiving a request to modify a position of a wayside signal of a first block via the graphical user interface, to a proposed position;
• obtaining railway parameters indicative of a configuration of the railway and one or more rail transit vehicles operable on the railway;
• responsive to the request to modify the position, determining at least one braking distance for the first block and for each block whose braking distance is affected by the proposed position based on the railway parameters and the proposed position of the wayside signal in the first block;
• and
• displaying on the graphical user interface the at least one braking distance for the first block and for each block whose braking distance is affected by the proposed position.
