Abstract
In one or more arrangements, a guide system for woodworking operations is presented which has a rail and a pair of side members operably connected to, and adjustable along a length of, the rail. In one or more arrangements, the side members are connected directly to the rail while in other arrangements the side members are indirectly connected to the rail, such as through use of a front member. In some various arrangements, the side members are laterally adjustable in order to accommodate various shapes, sizes, and configurations of base plates on various cutting members.
Claims18
A guide system for woodworking operations using a cutting member having a base plate, the guide system comprising:
- a sled configured to slide on a top surface of a workpiece;
- the sled having a front member;
- the sled having a pair of side members;
- wherein the pair of side members are operably connected to the front member;
- wherein the pair of side members extend rearward from the front member;
- wherein the sled is configured to facilitate lateral repositioning of one of the pair of side members relative to the other of the pair of side members so as to adjust a distance between the pair of side members;
- wherein the pair of side members are configured for side edges of the base plate of the cutting member to be placed on the pair of side members;
- wherein the pair of side members are configured to slide on and in contact with the top surface of the workpiece during a cutting operation;
- the pair of side members having a set of attachment members configured to engage the base plate of the cutting member so as to facilitate secure attachment of the cutting member to the sled while allowing a blade of the cutting member to reach down and through the workpiece during the cutting operation;
- wherein the set of attachment members are laterally adjustable in two dimensions relative to the base plate so as to adjust the lateral positions at which the set of attachment members can be attached to the base plate of the cutting member.
A guide system for woodworking operations using a cutting member having a base plate, the guide system comprising:
- a sled configured to slide on and in contact with a top surface of a workpiece when performing a cutting operation to cut the workpiece using the cutting member;
- the sled having a pair of side members;
- the pair of side members having a set of attachment members configured to engage the base plate of the cutting member so as to facilitate secure attachment of the cutting member to the sled while allowing a blade of the cutting member to reach down and through the workpiece;
- wherein a bottom side of the pair of side members is configured to contact the top surface of the workpiece in one or more contact areas;
- wherein the one or more contact areas includes a first contact area extending beyond a left side of the base plate and-includes a second contact area extending beyond a right side of the base plate, thereby providing a stable base for the sled and cutting member on the workpiece when performing the cutting operation;
- wherein the set of attachment members are laterally adjustable in two dimensions relative to the base plate;
- a rail;
- the rail extending a length between a first end and a second end;
- wherein the sled is operatively connected to the rail;
- a guide arm;
- the guide arm operably connected to the second end of the rail;
- wherein the guide arm is configured to slide along an edge of the workpiece and thereby guide the rail and sled relative to an edge of the workpiece as the sled is slid on the top surface of the workpiece when performing the cutting operation.
