Multimodal haptic tool and method using same

A system comprising:

• at least one haptic force feedback device;
• and
• a multimodal tool comprising:
• a body comprising one or more coupling portions, each coupling portion configured to be releasably and respectively mechanically coupled to said at least one haptic force feedback device and another distinct haptic device;
• wherein upon said multimodal tool being coupled to said at least one haptic force feedback device and to the other distinct haptic device, the multimodal tool being configured to be operational with each of said at least one haptic force feedback device and the other distinct haptic device simultaneously as a single haptic device having a greater number of degrees of freedom than the initial respective number of degrees of freedom of each of said at least one haptic force feedback device and the other distinct haptic device alone;
• wherein said body is an elongated body comprising a coupling portion at each opposite end thereof;
• and
• wherein a length of said elongated body is extendable.
